The rating system

The rating system

Users rate each other based on their buying and selling experience. Buyers rate sellers based on service, communication, delivery and product quality. Sellers rate buyers based on prompt payment and accurate shipping information.

There are three kinds of ratings: positive, neutral and negative.

Users might not be able to rate each other or to edit a rating after three months from the date of the transaction. The rating system helps you to make an informed decision about buying or selling from a specific user.

What to look for:

The number next to each user's Bob Shop name shows the total ratings the user has received. That number tells you how active the user is on Bob Shop and encompasses all ratings received (positive, neutral and negative).

The percentage next to each user's Bob Shop name shows the user's rating score, which indicates how satisfied previous trading partners were with that user. When you click on a user's name, you will be able to read the feedback the previous trading partners left for that user.

Number of ratings:

The number of ratings next to a user's Bob Shop name is visually represented with stars. For example, a single small yellow star means that the user has at least 10 ratings; a single big yellow star means that the user has at least 1 000 ratings; a single big yellow star in red circle means that the user has at least 30 000 ratings; and so on. The number of ratings encompasses all ratings, positive, neutral and negative.

Here is the overview of the rating stars:

The rating score:

The rating score is shown as a percentage of positive ratings next to a user's Bob Shop username. This score is calculated on the basis of the positive and negative ratings the user has received in the last 12 months. Where a user has not received any ratings in the last 12 months, we will use all their received ratings. Neutral ratings are not taken into account.

The feedback:

Before making a trading decision, it is important to read the feedback users left for a specific seller or buyer. To see the feedback, click on the user's Bob Shop name. Especially pay attention to the replies (or the absence of replies) the user posted on neutral or negative ratings.

How to rate another user:

You can rate a seller or buyer in the my account  section. You can only rate the user with whom you transacted on Bob Shop. The ratings of other users are shown next to the user's Bob Shop username. To check a user's ratings in detail and to read the feedback, click on the user's Bob Shop name. This will take you to the user's profile page, where you can see all his or her past selling and buying activity.

Rating rules:

  1. Users are encouraged to treat each other with respect and to rate each other fairly.
  2. Users might not be able to rate each other or to edit a rating after three months from the date of the transaction.
  3. Buyers cannot rate a seller who has filed an SNC (Sale not competed) against them. If a buyer appeals the SNC, Bob Shop will assess the situation. The outcome of the appeal will affect the buyer's ability to rate the seller.
  4. Users may not utilize a friend's account or create a secondary account in order to raise their own rating or lower the rating of another user.
  5. Threatening, abusive, racially vilifying, discriminatory or profane language is not allowed.
  6. The feedback may not contain any links to other pages, images or information not related to interacting with the user on Bob Shop.
  7. We promote free speech, but reserve the right to delete any rating and / or feedback at our sole discretion.
  8. If you feel that you have received an unfair rating or you have evidence of any abuse of the rating system, contact us on hello@bobshop.co.za and we will investigate. This may take several weeks.
Bob Shop reserves the right to disable (suspend) any Bob Shop account if a user has less than 80% positive ratings. Bob Shop may also caution buyers who are in the process of transacting with sellers who have been suspended.
