8000 Character Limit in Description field
Posted by bidorbuy Technical, Last modified by on 10 September 2013 10:22 AM

You may get an error which states:

This is caused by there being more than 8000 characters in the html of the "Describe your item" and not the characters you have pasted in the describe your item.

To see the html, click on "source" which is highlighted in red in the screenshot below.

You will now see a whole bunch of code, This is typically caused by copying and pasting from word into the describe your item area.

We recommend when creating content for you to describe your item, rather use a proper html editor, as word, creates a lot of unnecessary coding which fills up the 8000 character limit, or alternatively shorten your description.

A free and open source html editor which we recommend is bluefish. you can download it from the following url:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/bluefish/files/bluefish/2.2.4/Bluefish-2.2.4-setup.exe/download

Build your describe your item in bluefish, and check that the html coding does not exceed 8000 characters, if it does, you will need to shorten your description until it conforms to the 8000 character limit.
